Why Planning is Not Enough for Transformation
…Hi everyone And
welcome back to the wealthy woman lawyer podcast I'm so glad you're here.
I'm your host Divina Fredrick And today since it is the last podcast for 2022 and we are all
facing down the barrel of 2023, I thought I'd discussed everyone's favorite topic for the new year.
Planning. But first I just want to say happy new year to you and yours.
I hope you're happy You had a wonderful 20, 22 and you met all your business growth goals, and
you're now enjoying a life of prosperity and ease.
If 2022 did not turn out to be your best year That's okay.
We can't win them all. But what we can do is celebrate our past year successes.
Because we all have them and we can take a moment to evaluate.
What we would like to change in the coming year. For me I'm celebrating the fact that I got to
work with some amazing women law firm owner clients This year who've
gotten some remarkable results from our work together.
Some have crossed the seven figure revenue mark others having
greaser revenue over a million, several years in a row now.
And some are climbing the six-figure ladder at a rapid pace.
All of them are learning to trust themselves as leaders and managers
to develop new skills and to continue making their dreams reality.
Despite hiring and retention issues.
Uh or personal challenges like running for political office weathering hurricanes.
Or combating some very serious illnesses.
Many of them also are doing a lot of traveling Uh, Hawaii can Coon Germany Iceland
Paris, Rome and Machu Picchu or just a few of the vacation destinations.
Of my clients this year. I'm also celebrating the two year anniversary of the wealthy woman lawyerly.
Can you believe it has been two years already?
Since I Bert. Birth this brain child uh
idea that I had, I created the league in October.
because I knew I could never achieve my mission for helping more than a thousand women lawyers.
Achieve time and money freedom and live their best lives.
If I tried to get there one lawyer at a time.
I knew I needed to dream bigger. And the league is a manifestation of that dream.
I'm super excited about all the new ideas we're taking Action on.
Now to help even more women lawyers than ever in 2023.
Which leads me back to my topic for today Planning.
It was Winston Churchill Churchill who famously said plans
are of little importance but planning is essential.
And I cannot agree more I personally love the planning process.
I do planning at the beginning of the year.
Uh I do it throughout the year and I do a daily.
So whether I'm engaging in it for my own business or with my clients, I love a good plan.
And I love the planning process In fact this last week is a year I've worked with.
about 15 women law firm owners to map out their
2023 So it's been a very busy week for me this last week of the year.
Planning is about taking all that excitement that we feel about the new year.
A new day new possibilities that we haven't even considered.
And putting it down on paper or electronic paper, if you will.
Taking our first baby steps toward turning thoughts into things.
I found that many law firm owners like me love love love to plan.
However the biggest challenge I've discovered.
In my almost 10 years of coaching women business owners.
And women law firm owners in particular. Is the failure to make those plans a priority by
making room for them on your calendar.
Failed plans rarely are the result of a bad idea, but
rather the result of a failure to timely execute.
And execute well. Think back over the ideas
that you've had this last year that you did not execute.
And ask yourself why. For instance, did you want to lose 20 pounds but you didn't stick with your eating plan.
Or perhaps you quit going to meet your personal trainer after a couple of months because you got too busy.
Maybe you wanted to learn a new language or take more time off for yourself or read more but you did.
Perhaps you had a big a big audacious business or financial goals but those didn't manifest
either…There are three reasons High-achieving women fail
to achieve certain goals and none of them are lack of planning.
Here are three reasons One is they don't do a good job of executing on their plans because they
forget they need to prioritize their time.
And put daily action toward their goals. Onto their calendars.
So they have to transfer it and make room on their calendar for it
And then stick with those commitments they've made to themselves.
The only way you're going to stick with commitments If you is if you put them on the calendar.
And do it. Number two is they don't prioritize their own needs first instead of trying to do
and be everything to everyone by themselves.
Instead they try No sorry Instead they try to do and be everything to everyone but themselves.
Number three is they don't ask for. Invest
in or allow themselves to receive help.
That last one receiving is huge. You may feel like you're asking but if you're not.
Opening yourself up opening your mind up and allowing other people to help without you jumping into fix.
Then you are resisting help. What does it look like for you to put yourself first?
Well, not being the last one in your family to get dressed before you go out.
Not eating last, not following through on your commitment to yourself to go to the gym a few
times a week for a good workout Uh, eating scraps off your kids' plates instead of eating food That's good for you.
In your business it can look and sound like. I'll just close this file myself instead of giving
it to the legal assistant to do it because it will be quicker.
I can't take a long vacation only long weekends for me, because everything will fall apart If
I'm gone…I have great ideas for my business, but
no time to implement them because I have way too much client work to do.
I know I need to hire but I worried about doing it wrong.
So I just keep putting it off. I know I need to meet with my coach
or than ever because I need accountability support and guidance.
But since it's from me and not a client. I really can't prioritize the meeting…I know I
probably should raise my fees because I'm not making enough money to pay myself what
I need, but my clients might get upset.
The long and short of it is if you want long-term success in your business
and your life, you've got to start being a little more selfish.
You've got to make yourself. A priority because when you don't.
You are actually not only letting yourself down but you're not bringing your best self forward
for others either…If it keeps getting the excuse of.
I don't have time. Or whatever it is that you're telling yourself to stop you from putting
yourself your own damn self on your calendar.
All the planning in the world is not going to save you…If you want.
A new you in the new year, or even just a better version of yourself in 2023.
Uh Divina 2.0. The do this.
Number one, make a list of what you truly want, not what you think you should want.
Make a plan to go after that.
In 2023. Then schedule. One baby step at a time on
your calendar and stick to your commitment to get it demo.
And then number four is just rinse and repeat, but the next baby step on your calendar and get.
it done And then the next baby step toward your goal and get it Uh…if what you want is more
prosperity or resources more time off to travel or do something fun.
And you want a wealth generating law firm to create all of that for you.
Then I invite you to either schedule a call with me about private one-on-one coaching.
If you're at a half million dollars or more and you want to scale over that elusive seven figure mark.
